The film looks at the origins of the Gulf War crisis and challenges many of the official views regarding past and present activities in the region. On 2 August 1990, Saddam Hussein launched troops into Kuwait, triggering the first major international crisis of the post-Soviet era. But, was this invasion a surprise? Were diplomatic means utilized to resolve the issue peacefully? Was there a realistic threat from Iraq against Saudi Arabia or other Gulf states? Why wasn't Washington's rhetoric against Saddam matched with any tangible support to Iraqi opposition groups? If the purpose of the embargo over Iraq was to weaken Saddam Hussein, why did it evidently failed? What was the truth behind "Gulf War Syndrome" that mysteriously affected thousands of Gulf War veterans, local populations, and continues to affect persons today in the region and once involved in Desert Storm? Result of a two-year investigation, "Hidden Wars of Desert Storm" brings answers to most of these questions. Presented are documents never before seen on television and interviews of prominent personalities such as Desert Storm Commander, General Norman Schwarzkopf, former US Attorney General Ramsey Clark, former UN Iraq Program Director Denis Halliday, former UNSCOM team-leader Scott Ritter and many others. Including a large selection of archival footage, images recently brought back from Iraq, an original soundtrack scored by acclaimed composer Fritz Heede and the narration by two-time British Academy Award-winner, actor John Hurt, "Hidden Wars of Desert Storm" is a fast-paced, informative documentary resolutely accessible to a general audience. An interesting film. We recommend it.
